A research and development center for communication

The CfGC is a research and development center focused on communication, favoring interaction between knowledge and expertise in various areas of research and innovation. Our aim is to build, reinforce and develop societies, economies, and cultures in a sustainable way.

The CfGC studies innovation in close contact with the needs of enterprises, institutions and citizens. The CfGC is a center for research, training and Third Mission activities of the University of Florence. Through its various projects, it is completely self-financing. The Center’s projects are born from listening to needs, exchanging views with institutions and with the socio-economic fabric of the territory involved.

Our researchers are dedicated to responding to real needs and to discussing problems with the individuals directly involved. In this way, they can then offer concrete solutions in collaboration with the other scientific and professional partners with whom they cooperate in a close network.

The philosophy of the CfGC is that research and training do not only take place within laboratories and classrooms detached from the voices and requests of those who expect answers. Rather, they come from outside the university complex wherever problems emerge that call for research and innovation.

What does this mean?
It means that communication begins in the moment when a product is first planned, and not only once it’s been produced. The communication strategy of an object or service is established during the production phase (organizational communication), and then becomes a tool to offer products to users, and to monitor their use.
It means that we interpret communication as an instrument to create and reinforce communities of economic, social, and cultural interest; to build and strengthen relationships between individuals, enterprises and their stakeholders. A tool to collect needs–whether perceived or real–to give greater vigor to companies, to all life forms associated with them, and to institutions. To favor the development of a territory, not as an isolated area but with regard to its relationship with the world that surrounds it.

The CfGC collaborates with industries, companies, institutions, and associations that encounter difficulty communicating. We provide the necessary knowledge and expertise to find effective solutions to problems that are expressions of social, economic, cultural, and political needs.
The CfGC acts as a communication instrument and guarantee between businesses and organizations with their specific needs and experts from the most diverse research and professional areas.
The added value of the Center’s approach to its clients’ problems is that we seek out and find, within their complex realities, not a tangled mass of questions to answer but a precious and rich well of resources.

The CfGC plans and develops communication able to reinforce the economic-social reality with which it cooperates by renegotiating relationships, interactions, and collaborations that have deteriorated over time, giving greater value to those that are still active, and creating the necessary conditions to generate new convergences of interests for those organizations that have requested the Center’s consultation.

Research at the Center: redefining the relationship between research, production, and socio-cultural needs

What is the distinctive trait of our work and of our research? The CfGC is a qualified meeting place for various subjects–researchers, experts, entrepreneurs, citizens–who together are searching for solutions to real problems that come from the everyday social, economic, political, and cultural reality, and it works with passion on both basic and applied research. In this transdisciplinary, intersectorial, collaborative perspective oriented toward needs–whether perceived or not–the Center undertakes and supports projects in the world of research and training.

By putting into communication subjects who work in society, the economy, politics, and culture in an efficient and productive way, it becomes possible to redefine the relations between scientia and usus. In other words, the relations between knowledge and common, daily life to verify feasibility.
